Self-Portrait

This is a portrait of myself inspired by You Are Special by Max Lucado. He tells the tale of a village which gifts the talented and the beautiful with gold stars and the imperfect with grey dots. I built a village on my face with gold stars and grey dots. However, underneath the outermost layer, there are no stars or dots. I use this art piece to express how I wish that my worth could be found from underneath all the stars, dots, and societal standards. In a world where people feel as if they are often lacking, I use this piece to ask, “why don’t we give each other love instead of gold stars and grey dots?”
